About us

In October, 2005, whilst my daughter was studying at Edinburgh University, she fell off a quad bike and broke her back. We spent two months at the specialist spinal unit in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow where she had an operation to mend the break.

When she was well enough, she was air ambulanced to Stoke Mandeville, where they re-operated. She was extremely lucky not to end up dead or in a wheelchair.

Amelia was advised by the doctors to take a year away from university to get stronger and have physiotherapy. Five months on from the accident, she was able to walk with crutches.

The NHS pair she had were very uncomfortable on her hands, they clicked so everyone could hear her coming, and most importantly, made her look and feel disabled.

It is no fun being on crutches. She was fed up and her hands were constantly sore.

We decided to start coolcrutches to give those injured another option: no more sore hands, solid and robust, yet lightweight, silent, and NOT GREY!

"James fell in a rugby trial for England under 21s and  permanently damaged his leg.

He was on crutches for a year and liked the pink ones best!"
