Cool Crutches x The Ehlers-Danlos Society: Introducing the Zebra Collection

If you live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, you already know the zebra.

You know what it means to be told your symptoms don't quite fit. To spend years searching for answers. To finally find a community of people who get it, and feel something shift when you do.

The zebra has always been the symbol of that. Rare, but not alone.

So when we started talking to the Ehlers-Danlos Society about a partnership, it felt less like a business decision and more like something that needed to exist.

This May, we're proud to introduce the Zebra Collection, a brand new range of ergonomic crutches and walking sticks created in partnership with The Ehlers-Danlos Society, with 10% of net sales from every Zebra product donated directly to the charity.

Why the zebra?

In medicine, there's a saying: "When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras." It's taught to medical students as a reminder to look for common diagnoses first.

For people with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, that saying stings. EDS is the zebra. It's the condition that gets missed, misdiagnosed, and dismissed for years before anyone joins the dots.

The EDS community reclaimed the zebra as their own. It's worn on t-shirts, tattooed on wrists, used as a shorthand between people who understand what it means to live in a body that doesn't behave the way it should.

Using the zebra design on a mobility aid isn't decorative. It's a statement. It says: I know what this is. So do you. We see each other.

Built for the way EDS bodies actually move

Cool Crutches was built on the belief that a mobility aid should feel like yours. Something you choose because you love it, not just because you need it.

That belief is what the Zebra Collection is built on too. EDS affects connective tissue throughout the body, which means joints, tendons, ligaments and skin are all involved. For many people with EDS, hypermobility means standard mobility aids can actually cause harm, whether through poor handle design that strains unstable wrists, heavy construction that adds fatigue, or hard grips that bruise hypersensitive skin.

Both the Zebra Crutches and Zebra Walking Stick are engineered for the way EDS bodies actually move. The ergonomic handle supports natural hand positioning to reduce pressure on the wrists. The shock-absorbing ferrule minimises impact through the elbows and shoulders with every step. The lightweight aluminium construction means you're not fighting the weight of your own aid by the end of the day.

Each product also comes with a soft neoprene grip as standard, machine-washable and latex-free, because the details matter when your skin is part of the picture. Comfort on even the worst days shouldn't be a bonus. It should be the bare minimum.

About the Ehlers-Danlos Society

The Ehlers-Danlos Society is the leading global charity for people living with EDS and hypermobility spectrum disorders. They fund research, provide education for medical professionals, and support a community of hundreds of thousands of people navigating life with conditions that are still widely misunderstood.

May is Ehlers-Danlos Awareness Month, and this partnership is our way of contributing to that work in a way that goes beyond a badge on a website. Every Zebra Crutch and every Zebra Walking Stick sold puts money directly back into what the Ehlers-Danlos Society does. Not a one-off donation. Not a capped amount. An ongoing commitment.
