Physionet Partnership Update - How You Are Helping Us to Make A Positive Impact

As a business, having a positive impact through our work is at the core of everything we do.  However, not just through supplying the best walking aids, built to last - we also feel a huge sense of responsibility around waste.

One thing we have to be attuned to, is that more often than not by selling our crutches or walking sticks, we are then replacing previous walking sticks and crutches that become redundant as a result.

We know with hospital mobility aids being issued for free but more often than not, unable to be returned in the UK, there is a huge risk we could contribute to waste instead of reducing it.

This responsibility is why we have partnered with an incredible charity, Physionet. Physionet is a UK based charity, local to Cool Crutches in Boroughbridge. They are a team made up entirely of volunteers dedicated to reducing wastage of mobility aids and medical equipment in the UK.

Over 300 of our customers have already donated their old sticks which have not only changed the lives of 300 others but reduced the risk of old sticks ending up going to waste in cupboards or worse, landfill.  By sending them to us in the office, we have then been able to take them on to Physionet HQ to be reviewed.  

The team then recycle the unusable bits, refurbish and mend the broken bits.  Then once a month, come rain or shine (these photos show a very chipper team at 9am on a Saturday morning in February when it was toasty 1 degrees), we meet to pack a 20-40 foot container with all donations to go to countries and communities overseas who simply don't have access to any mobility aids.

To date, Physionet have shipped over 80,000 donations - our contribution although small is significant and with your help we can continue to grow our efforts and impact even more.
