V&A Design & Disability Features Cool Crutches

This month marks the launch of a brand new and historic exhibition at the V&A in London, Design & Disability. The first of its kind, a celebration of radical contributions of Disabled, Deaf and neurodivergent people and communities to design history and contemporary culture, from the 1940s to now.

Co founders Amelia & Clare were invited to a private viewing ahead of the exhibition opening to the public on Saturday 7th June.  It was an evening with iconic disabled individuals alongside key decision makers to not only celebrate but call to action for a better future for disability.

The exhibition includes over 170 pieces spanning from 1940s to today and is divided into three sections – ‘Visibility’, ‘Tools’ and ‘Living’ – with objects including design, art, architecture, fashion and photography. The exhibition itself is also designed to be inclusive, featuring British Sign Language (BSL) guides, audio description, tactile surfaces and floors, additional seating, and rest areas.

‘Disabled people have always been here, they’ve always been designing and making things,’ explains exhibition curator Natalie Kane. ‘People haven’t been invisible, even though it feels like society has made them so.’

Classic Silver Diamanté Crutches & Bespoke Disability Pride Flag Walking Stick featured in the exhibition.

Cool Crutches was included with our Classic Diamanté Crutches installed alongside a bespoke Disability Pride Walking Stick. The intention behind these designs being featured was to highlight the importance of functionality in design, but also style.  With no compromise on either, to give disabled people exactly what they deserve - support that ticks all the boxes!

As well as being an incredible exhibition, the museum has also made the building more accessible including adding seating for comfort and ease.  A highlight for Amelia was meeting Caprice Kwai, founder of By Caprice Kwai and longstanding customer (pictured above). Amelia & Clare loved attending, Amelia noted 'The exhibition is putting disability front and centre, demonstrating the beauty, strength, power and value within the disabled community.  We are so grateful to be part of it and can't thank the team at V&A enough for the sensational work in bringing this to life.'

‘Design and Disability’ is on show from 7 June 2025 to 15 February 2026 at the V&A South Kensington, London
