Bank Holiday Survival Guide: Disability Edition
Long weekends can be brilliant - extra time to relax, catch up with friends, or do absolutely nothing. But when you live with a disability, chronic illness or limited energy, they can also bring a lot of pressure to do all the things and silently suffer the consequences.
We’ve pulled together our top tips to help you make the most of the bank holiday on YOUR terms. Whether you’re planning BBQs or sofa time, surrounded by family or enjoying your own company, this guide is all about comfort, pacing, and doing what works for you.
1️⃣ Pace Yourself
Remember: it’s a long weekend, not just one big day. It’s tempting to try and cram in as much as possible, especially if plans are stacked up, but try to take things slow. Prioritise rest and listen to your body. If it helps, spread your plans out over multiple days to avoid burning out too early.
2️⃣Always Have a Plan B
Plans change. So do symptoms. Having a backup option ready means you’ll feel more in control if you need to switch things up. And if you need to use that extra bank holiday day for rest? That’s totally valid too.
3️⃣ Prep for Outings
Channel your inner scout and get organised ahead of time. Pack your medication (and make sure you’ve got more than you need). Also make sure you're stocked up on water, snacks and any hot weather supplies (fans and hats) and of course your mobility aid accessories. Cuff Covers will stop our bare arm arms from sticking to crutches cuffs and Soft Grips will be the difference between you with sweaty sore hands having a miserable day, and you having the best day with comfy palms.
A little prep goes a long way, and future you will be grateful for it - check out our best-selling accessories.
4️⃣ Accessibility Comes First
If someone else is making plans, check that your access needs are being considered. Whether that’s step-free entry, seating, parking or just knowing where the loos are, your comfort is non-negotiable. Never be afraid to speak up or ask questions before saying yes to an invite.
5️⃣ Do It Your Way
There’s no one-size-fits-all way to enjoy a bank holiday. Maybe you’re up for a family party, or maybe you’d rather binge-watch your comfort show in PJs with snacks. Whether you’re with friends, family or flying solo - this is your weekend to enjoy in your way.
